Sergei Bortkiewicz (1877 - 1952) was a Russian composer and pianist. His piano style was very much based on Liszt and Chopin, nurtured by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, early Scriabin, Wagner and Ukrainian folklore.
Special thanks to Rach3master for introducing me to this rare gem (https://youtu.be/PPNVUSKfsfs). This melancholic prelude has an uncanny resemblance to Chopin’s Nocturne in E minor, which is one of my favourite nocturnes. I especially loved playing this nocturne with copious amount of rubato creating that 'ebb and flow' rhythm.
