This is me playing my own arrangement of the wonderful score to the third Man Of Steel trailer, composed by Hans Zimmer. The trailer is one of the best things I have seen in my life in terms of how its put together/editing/music - all comes together to form easily one of the greatest movie trailers ever made. I really want to see the film after watching this trailer....but I guess that is the whole point of it lol..good marketing by Warnerbros.

I learnt the music from listening to the trailer a few times, I would say its very accurate to the original in terms of overall sound and melodies. You will notice at the start there is a background kind of snyth/pad sound...I simply dual voiced the piano tone with another tone called = Angels Choir on my Roland HP507 piano. Then after the intro, I switch to decay strings and piano dual voice. This whole performance is played straight live in one take as with all my videos, everything you see and hear is a live performance with no before or after editing. Sound is recorded via the on-board wav. recorder on the piano.

This piece is clearly an edited track made for the third trailer. It does not feature on the official soundtrack, but is a re-edit of a couple of tracks that feature in the movie and on the soundtrack.

This piece shares the same key as the John Williams original main theme fanfare (probably my favourite piece of music by him ever) - C major. If you listen carefully after the intro I actually include a hint of it 😉 I love what Zimmer has done with this music, it gleams with hope and is very uplifting music, I really enjoy listening to this track and shows Zimmer's genius as a composer. His intentional use of the same key as Williams and uses a part of his theme is very clever indeed. The last 10 seconds or so I play triplets on the same key to play one of the main melodies Hans uses in this piece, originally played by the strings. This is actually very difficult to get right unless you have a good piano action that allows fast repeated key strokes on the same key, pieces like La Campanella by Franz Liszt also require the player to perform this kind of technique, I had to play rising and falling notes whilst repeating them in triplets also, so it was a fun little challenge for me.

Thanks for listening as always 😉

Mark 😀
