Wise creates jazz-like music with fast and slow rhythms. The opening chord with the added fourth captures the tropical setting. The music coincides with the rhythm of Donkey Kong who walks, swings on ropes, somersaults , blasts from barrels, swims, and more. There is an active bass line which characterizes Donkey Kong's sauntering and somewhat heavy walk.
The phrases are symmetrical and there are authentic cadences. The upwards resolution of the flat 5 interval represents humor and Donkey Kong's mischievousness.
