Let's identify and examine the compositional techniques used in the Mario Kart 8 Wii U theme to enhance the gameplay and visuals! The melody and bass have complex rhythms and there are many layers to the music. This is the first Mario Kart game to be in HD, and these complex rhythms and layers correspond to the high level of detail in the game. Each gaming system has their own characteristic music. Often it is possible to identify a system for which a game is made by solely listening to the music. Just as how each console has a different feel, music has its own feel.

The use of a melody with a wide range with many leaping intervals contributes to the excitement of racing the karts. Again, the avoidance of the authentic cadence allows for a many repetitions of the theme without becoming too boring. This theme is a little over a minute long, and the short-length theme seems to be a continuing tradition and pays homage to previous Mario Kart games.

It is curious that with the amount of disk space and technological capacity, the themes could be of longer length or through-composed. However, the use of a short-length theme has its merits of being concise, straightforward, and shorter-length themes have a greater chance of being more memorable than longer-length themes.
