"Union" by Louis Moreau Gottschalk is truly a historical piece!
Take a journey back to the year 1862. The genius American pianist and composer, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, is embarking on a grueling cross-country tour across the United States and is giving one piano concert every day over the course of three-and-a-half years, on average. During this tour, Gottschalk composes "Union," a piece that includes melodies such as "Yankee Doodle, "The Star-Spangled Banner," and "Hail Columbia." "Union" was premiered on Washington's birthday in New York in 1862 to great acclaim. In March 1864 Gottschalk performed this piece with Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, in attendance!
