Ring Ring Ring Ring Ring Ring Ring, Banana Phone!

Let's identify and examine the compositional techniques Raffi uses to create a successful song! Raffi uses musical onomatopoeia which evokes associations of a ringing telephone. For example, the opening trill on F is like a rotary phone ringing. The repeated B-flats also evoke a phone ringing with the B-flat note vibrating 7 times in a row before going up a tritone. Also, the lyrics to the repeated notes are, "Ring" and "Ding dong."
The melody is centered around B-flat and F, and therefore it is relatively easy to musically understand the piece. The ABA structure is also relatively easy to understand.
The interjection of brief solos express the singers's happy reactions when finding a banana phone.
The sparkling piano solo in the middle section is in the high register and is the apotheosis of the piece. The ringing phone is evoked by the highest E-flat on the piano, and the singer excitedly sings, "Whooo-hoo!"
The lyrics invite people to sing with the lyrics, "...For us to get together and sing!! Happiness is contagious, and it can spread throughout the group of people singing this song!

This version is a sped-up version of the original song in G major! The fast tempo creates a more lively feeling and enhances the zaniness of a phone that is made out of a banana.
