This short delightful piece is from Book Ten of Grieg’s Lyric Pieces. As far as I know, ‘Puck’ is a mischievous sprite. For me the music seems to suggest that the sprite is rather sneaky and pops in and out of sight.
The piece looks pretty simple on paper, until you realise how ridiculously fast the tempo is supposed to be. To avoid creating a blurry mess, I played this version significantly slower than the indicated tempo marking. However, it is still rather difficult to achieve good phrasing, articulation and accuracy at such a tempo. The sweating hands certainly doesn't help!
