This is one of those pieces that, despite being over-played, never loses its magic. I will never get sick of playing/listening to this mournful first movement.
Some people prefer this movement to be played at a snail's pace. Personally I find that the main singing melody flows with more drama and poignancy with a faster tempo. Furthermore, I decided to bring out some rather unconventional melodic lines hidden within those haunting triplets. Doing this is probably completely inappropriate but I do find that it adds an extra dimension to the piece. I hope Beethoven isn't rolling over in his grave.
