Me playing my own piano arrangement, learnt by ear, of several stand out pieces from the soundtrack to Man Of Steel, composed by the living genius Hans Zimmer.

I recorded this in one take, my only full run through of the medley in fact after learning each piece. Strings were added in to accompany Flight and Arcade simply by me pressing a button on the piano (as you can see in the video). The piano allows me to dual voice piano with any other sound, the same applies to all other videos on my youtube, I never edit my videos using added voices or parts, its all a live single take performance, raw and non-edited.

The following pieces are included in my piano suite, in the respective order of play:

-Terraforming
-Goodbye My Son
-Flight
-Arcade
-What Are You Going To Do When You Are Not Saving The World?

I really enjoyed learning this music from the soundtrack, which is very good I must say. I had to start with Terraforming as it seemed to fit best at the start of the suite, its a great intro I thought with a simple but highly effective chord sequence with A always repeated in the bass with its rather epic rhythm and changing chords on top.

Goodbye My Son I added in kind of last minute and was not planned to be added in to the suite at all. I only picked up on the fact it had a beautiful haunting melody when I listened to the track a few times, so I decided to do a piano version of it, played quite softly or rather Pianissimo. The Roland piano I play on has a very good dynamic range and hopefully you can hear some big contrasts in tone throughout the suite.

I had to add in Flight, as it uses the main theme of Man Of Steel, with the hopeful sounding C to G sequence, and the characteristic C to B to C notes.

Arcade is just insanely epic sounding...no explanation is needed, other than the fact that it was used to amazing effect in the Nokia trailer released just before the official launch of the movie, the piece also uses a hell of a lot of repeated same piano key notes (C mainly), like the repeated triplets at the end of my Ideal Of Hope performance.

What Are You....etc. (lol) perhaps the longest title for a piece of music ever! I used the beautiful starting piano theme, also used (a re-edit) in the Ideal Of Hope track for trailer 3 of Man Of Steel, however its slightly different of course in Ideal Of Hope. I wanted to end on something hopeful, pure and wonderful as this simple small piano theme in C major is in essence, instead of the more menacing and energetic Arcade piece in C minor.

Thanks for listening 😉

Mark 😀
